Useful links for parents in Ireland and the United Kingdom

In Ireland, five Neonatal Intensive Care Units collaborate in "The HIP Trial" research project. These include the Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH), the NICU at the National Maternity Hospital (NMH), the NICU at the Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital (CWIUH), the NICU at Rotunda Hospital and the NICU at the Royal Maternity Hospital Belfast.

Informing Families

The aim of the Informing Families group is to develop evidence-based National Best Practice Guidelines, education and training and appropriate procedures to inform families of their child's disability when communicating a diagnosis or concern. The group provides information for families in various languages as well as information for professionals like Training and Support, the Good Clinical Practice Guidelines for download and e-learning  material.  


Scope is a UK disability charity that supports disabled people and their families in England and Wales.


Bliss is a charity which supports the parents of sick or premature babies. There is also a parent support helpline.

Irish Premature Babies

This is a website for the parents of premature babies in Ireland. The "Help & Advice" section has a glossary which explains many of the medical terms and other words used by doctors and nurses who are caring for your premature baby Ireland. There is also a list of services and groups that parents can contact for information, help, and support.
