The Data Monitoring Committee (DMC)

Main tasks

The data monitoring committee will be responsible for the development of strict procedures for the monitoring of study findings and the detection of adverse events through the activities of WP 05 Study monitoring and Ethics and WP 12 Data Management and Dissemination. Whenever appropriate, it will consult the consortium and make recommendations as to improve their performance.

The DMC is fully independent from the participant centres.

Prof. Henry Halliday

Professor Henry Halliday has significant experience in conducting neonatal trials.

He is a retired consultant neonatologist having worked at the Royal Maternity Hospital in Belfast, Northern Ireland for over 30 years. He is currently an honorary professor of Child Health at Queen's University Belfast.

After paediatric residency in Belfast, Professor Halliday completed neonatal fellowships at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio (Case Western Reserve University) and the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the University of California in San Francisco (Children's Hospital).

His research interests include general neonatology, perinatal medicine, conducting systematic reviews, and coordinating multicentre randomised clinical trials on surfactant therapy and inhaled steroids in the prevention of neonatal chronic lung disease.

Among the recent research projects that he has supported as Principal Investigator or Collaborator are the MOMENTS, TOBY and BOOST II studies. He has chaired or served on the Data Monitoring Committees of many studies including: EUNO, NIPPV, NEST, I2S2 and OPPTIMUM.

During his career, Professor Halliday was president of the Irish Perinatal Society, the Ulster Paediatric Society, the Irish and American Paediatric Society, the European Society for Paediatric Research and the European Association of Perinatal Medicine.

Dr Al Ozonoff

Dr Al Ozonoff is Director of Biostatistics for the Clinical Research Program at Children's Hospital Boston and a Lecturer at Harvard Medical School.  Before joining CHB, Dr Ozonoff served as Associate Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at the Boston University School of Public Health from 2004-2010.

Prof. Jean-Christophe Mercier

Professor Jean-Christophe Mercier is Head of the Paediatric Accident and Emergency Department at Hpital Robert Debr in Paris, France. He was the European Chief Editor of the "Pediatric Research" Journal  2001-2005, and the Principal Investigator of the EUNO trial in preterm babies.
